Membership
Lake Taupo Volunteer Coastguard Inc consists of two separate divisions, the 'passive' members who join for the benefits they receive from being a Coastguard member, and the 'active' volunteers who man the radio, or crew the Dedicated Rescue Vessel based in the Taupo Harbour, and server on the committee.
Of the 300 members of the Taupo Coastguard, less than half are local residents.
Taupo Coastguard is dependant upon public donation and sponsorshop from local and national sponsors like Mighty River Power.
We receive no Government funding. LTVCG has a well equipped rescue vessel able to attend any emergency situation anywhere on the lake, in conjunction with Turangi Coastguard, in any weather. The crew of five on 'Taupo Rescue' are trained in boat handling, search and rescue and are certified marine medics. The radio operators provide a service of daily local weather reports, receiving trip reports and emergency calls.
Lake Taupo Volunteer Coastguard offers new members opportunities to serve as Radio Operators and Rescue Boat Crew. Member benefits include access to a range of training provided through CGHQ Education courses and more. Boaties are invited to join as ordinary members and be covered for all emergencies.
